You know you live in a great city when...

You  know you live in a great city when, your Mayor asks for volunteers, hoping for 1000, expecting 600..... and 5000 people show up!! They posted the request at 1:45 am!! There is a whole web page of company's offering free services, anything from pumping out basements for free, wedding services for weddings that had to be postponed, to chiropractic help for sore backs. It makes you feel proud to be a Calgarian!

 pumping out the saddledome.....

I can actually see "ground" in the grounds now!!!

This is a pic from this morning, there is a picture of a few days ago, water everywhere, nice to see the water receding!

The Zoo, it will be awhile before the island is dry, but the animals survived, we lost 2 peacocks that weren't found during the amazing evacuation to higher ground!

Shows how fast and hard the river was pushing stuff around.....

Now we are on the come back..... and clean up......

In my defense

I was carving a heart with our initials in it :-)

Caught!

Evar invited us to karaoke tonight and we sat at a table where other past patrons had taken the opportunity to carve various things into the table. So Selena said when in Rome.. and she was caught on phone:

Staying afloat

It's very surreal to look outside my window, see the sun shining.... While all around us is chaos and heartache! The difference between us and New Orleans is - everyone was affected by the hurricane- there were  signs of broken branches and debris all over the city, so even if you were out of the flood zone- you knew things had happened. Here, you could be sitting on your deck listening to the birds sing, completely oblivious.

Then you turn on the news... And see our beloved stampede grounds getting swallowed up, and where there were streets. It's a rushing river! Our zoo animals were moved to higher ground and the the rivers make the island smaller and smaller. Eau Clare is.... Where?? All I see are rapids?

Here are some pictures from different sources,

Quote from Shaun

If anyone remembers the scene from Shaun of the dead - when the zombie apocalypse happens- Shaun decides the safest place to be is in the Winchester until it all blows over...... So we took his advice and went to our "Winchester "

Webbed feet

Wishin I had them today.... Thinking about all my friends and hoping everyone is safe- lots of Calgary is under water .... Stay safe and afloat everyone!!!

Robins Nest

Papa was out on the deck and noticed a Robin fly in....with a worm in it's beak..... then he realized why. We have a Robin's nest on our planter. It's high up so I would never see it at my heght. But from Maddie's room, there is a perfect view!! So cute, me and Maddie (momma and baby) watched this momma and baby all morning!!

Unexpected surprise

We learned that the Napas were coming for the weekend on Thursday! Such a nice surprise! Then since they hadn't seen Maddie for awhile we combined the weekend and Maddie slept over too! Yay!' Maddie had to work on Saturday so I told her I would pick her up after her shift. Then I made plans with Nana to go to the Tuscany community garage sale. Over 100 houses were in it, so it sounded like fun to us!! We got up early and headed west. Meanwhile the boys were tearing down our shed that got damaged in a wind storm, and building a new one. Somehow mine and Nana's day sounded more fun. We "saled" all morning got some great finds, and then headed for lunch with Holly and Dave. Then we stopped at the store for some scrapbook nessessities and ventured South to the Lazy Loaf. We picked up some yummy desserts and headed home. After dropping off Nana and sorting out treasures I left to pick up Maddie. After supper we played games, laughed a lot watched a movie and enjoyed our night with a bowl full of popcorn.

Yuuuup

The sun is shining and we are up early to check out the Storage War situation, 2nd one this morning- first locker looked like it was a Money Mart. Lots of money signs, change counting machines, or.... Maybe it was a counterfeit operation! Oh the stories that come from these lockers.... Well off to the next locker, our partners today are Glenn and Jack. Wish me luck, I'm always looking for that Halloween locker!

Surprise from The Fringe

We got a nice surprise today from Anne and Cliff who just returned from the coast after visiting their son Warren who just happened to be the Unit Production Manager for one of our favourite shows: Fringe. He said he thought he had something we might like.

So cool! All the blocks are carved with the Glyphs that are part of the mystery and story of the show.
A very, very cool collectors item for some huge Fringe fans! Thank you Warren!
