A Very Merry Unbirthday to you..

Success!!! We did it!! We made Alice come to life!! Maddie ( I mean Alice ) is all ready for her tea party on Saturday :-)

How very curious....

A little excited!

Down the rabbit hole

For Maddie's school project they have to remake a scene from a movie... well, Miss Maddie put on her imagination cap and decided to do, Alice in Wonderland, the tea party scene! This isn't just a minor production either, not to mention the fact that we have to do in real life , what cartoonists can do with a pencil! But... with the help of a few of her friends ( cast members, AKA Mad Hatter, and the rabbit, Maddie being Alice ) we are getting things together. Every teacup in the house is rounded up, and the table is being set!

Now you wouldn't think that needing an Alice in Wonderland dress would come up very often in one's life, but in Maddie's, it's a habit! And never for Halloween, so it was time to make our own, rather than rent. Oh my Gosh what was I thinking?? I am NOT a sewer! But the twinkle in Maddie's eye was enough to make me try.... off I go to the unknown world of fabric and thread! ( Now I know how the newbie scrapbookers feel in our store! ) I seeked out the help of a friendly face and requested help! The store clerk was amazing and so helpful I actually thot maybe we could pull this off! Then she told me, "No she can't come home with me " :-( oh well, it was worth a try!

So Long story short, we tackled the mountain of blue fabric, and actually are making progress! We had to call Nana in Medicine Hat to find out which way the grain of the fabric ran and after that we were off and sewing.

I was given velcro tabs at the store, because the woman saw me start to sweat when she mentioned a zipper... but up til now ( knock on wood ) we seem to be doing ok, so I'm going to pick up a zipper today and see how brave I am tonight!

Here is the start, and I'll send pix when we're all done!

Bass Pro Shop

We ventured North today to see the new Bass Pro Shop that has everyone talking. We got to the parking place and had to hunt for a parking spcae. Keep in mind this is the ONLY store open right now at the new Balzac Mall. It was PACKED! A good sign. We were in complete awe when we walked in and saw a wildenerness zone complete with waterfall, and numerous glass eyes staring us down like we were the prey of the wolves and surrounding stuffed animals! It was very impressive inside!! So much so, that even tho I have no desire to buy fishing or hunting supplies, I would walk thru again to gander at the sights!

Bigger than life entrance

Haha I thot this was amusing but it may be for real?

A huge fishtank!

Very very cool store!!!

Deerfoot at Christmas!

I found the photo below in the archives while I was standing still on the Deerfoot. Wow - I don't remember December being that snowy. It was like it was yesterday.

There's a reason for that - it was yesterday. This photo was actually taken on April 22, 2009. But you would have believed me if I said it was taken in December right?

Speaking of days gone by, on the 21st we reached a high of 21 degrees.

The saying is true, if you don't like Calgary's weather, wait 10 minutes.....

Da-da-dum-da-dum.....

Don't get the title? Watch the vid below.

I feel a lot more Canadian today.

Through some very nice friends, (you know who you are Barry and Sheila), I came upon some very sought after property these days.

Stanley Cup Playoff tickets.

Game 3 - Chicago at Calgary

I will probably have no voice tomorrow from yelling all night - I don't mind - I just saw a Stanley Cup playoff game.

Hockey is a religion here in Calgary - take a look at the worshippers:

99.8 percent of the people were wearing the red flaming C. WOW!

The ceremony begins:

This was so cool - a huge Flames flag floated for a while
above the crowd....awesome!

The whole place goes dark and then the light and sound
show starts!
'

I cheered myself hoarse and the Flames gave victory (finally!)
to a very adoring crowd!

18,000 or so fans walk over the bridge at Macleod Trail.
Those were some 18,000 happy people!

After a shaky start, the Flames easily beat the Hawks 4-2.

Kipper is a golden god. What a game! Go Flames GO!

The misadventures of Lucky

so..... as you know we painted Maddie's room. Well most people leave the windows open to air things out a bit, we also left some windows open. The second floor bedroom has no screen in it right now because that's where we check for pigeons and clean the roof. It's winter, no bugs. no problem.... little problem. Little furry problem! LUCKY, ventured upstairs.... and went out the WINDOW!

Now at first we were in disbelief that he went out there. Maybe he went out, but then what? Jump? Doubtful. But he was nowhere to be found, and Lucky thinking like a dog, comes when he's called. No sign of him anywhere. So we looked outside and there across the front steps were little paw prints! We looked up at the roof and were still in disbelief! But the evidence was there. We looked all around the house and found his escape route, he walked all around and jumped off onto the shed at the side! By now a few hours had passed and we hopped in the car and drove around. No sign of Lucky or any other cat for that matter. That had me worried as I could hear coyotes howling in the ( not so distant ) distance. We slept in the basement with the back door open ( the closest Dean will come to camping! ) in case Lucky came home. We woke up cold, and still no sign of the little furball..... :-( Dean's parents arrived the second night he had been missing, they found a very sad Selena.. and Maddie wasn't home yet so she didn't know. Anyway, Dean, and parents put posters all over the neighborhood, and crossed their fingers.

Maddie came home had her Easter egg hunt and then learned the news. The phone rang on the 3rd day and someone said they saw a cat in their flower pot this morning. So we dashed into the car and went to his house, there we heard the littlest meow, and saw sitting on the step a very dusty little Cat. It was Lucky!!! We were sooo happy, and Lucky purred for hours! Thankyou # 86 you found our Lucky cat!

The Rainbow castle

This Easter weekend we painted Maddie's room, it went from being purple brick to rainbow brick. We got our 6 colors of paint and went to town. At 9AM after Dean made breakfast we started the transformation. @2:20 AM we finished..... but it looks really cool!! Maddie was a huge help, she painted her closet bright Pink and then decided it would be cool to have her bed in the closet. She measured the frame and it fit so that was where it went! It took about 4 hours to do the tape for all the bricks and Maddie again came to the rescue and started sponging while I finished. We started out with the thot that the bricks would be random colors, but then when Maddie saw how pretty her fingers looked with all the colors a new thot came to her. So we started painting 2 colors on each brick, ( we just doubled our working time) but it was worth it. I will post a new pic with her finished room tomorrow :-)

Evil Archie

You wouldn't think that this sweet face that we all grew up with would be a terror..... but he IS!! Maddie and Dean have a game going, where they place the Archie in strategic places to scare each other, in the shower, closet ect. you get the drift. Well... this morning Maddie got me, I opened the bedroom door, and did a jig when I came face to face with the life size Archie!!!! Arggg Good morning to me!

Spring is in the air...

A sure sign of spring in the air is girls blowing bubbles in the front yard, that's one sport you don't see in the winter. There is even sidewalk chalk on the driveway if you look really close... bring on the heat, we're ready!

Maddie and Martina enjoying the day
