The Zoo Is Closed....

...And no you can't get into the movie!
That pretty much sums up Maddie and Connor's night. First, we dropped them off at the zoo so they could go to Boo at the Zoo. Then 5 minutes later, we were picking them as Boo in the Zoo was no where to be found. Then we went to the movies, Selena and I got our movie tickets aaaaand then 5 minutes later, Maddie and Connor were at the rope line with a DENIED look on their faces. They couldn't go to the movie of their choice "Saw" because it was rated 18a. Could the tip off had been Maddie's tiara? Hmmm. Geez. So, they had to buy tickets to our movie "Quarantine". Aaaaanyway, we are sitting in the theater and they are not here with us. Perhaps they snuck into Saw? Anyway, bottom line: no more double dates with the High Maintenance Twins!

Exciting News!

This may not be exciting news to anyone else but us.... but today (Oct 18 08) we got to drive over the new overpass for the first time. First there was the traffic backup in Evanston. Then the backup moved further down to Beddington, now.... we can sail over Stoney Trail on the brand new Beddington overpass. I took a picture from both sides when we reached the middle. YAY!! it's a big day for us Northerners!

At last!

At last we found the Muffaletta!! This is going to be the closest we will get without booking a flight I think! In Okotoks there is a restaurant called " A taste of New Orleans" and it does have a taste! The 3 of us piled into the car and headed South for the sought after sandwiches. Maddy ordered a Muffaletta with no meat, and the waitress suggested she try a Po' boy. But it was the olive salad in the Muffaletta that she liked. so Maddie got he best of both world, they gave her a Po'boy with olive salad! True to it's kind, you have to roll up your sleeves and use allot of napkins to eat one of those! The food was great, and we can't wait to go back and try their dinner menu.

Really nice atmoshere!

the home of the sought after sandwich
very quaint
the girls

Maddie's Po'boy
The infamous Muffaletta.... it could feed a family of 4!!

Tory Glory even in Minority.

First a movie clip from the 80s classic The Breakfast Club:

I voted this morning and it felt good.

Prime Minister Harper has won about 143 seats in Parliament and a near majority mandate. Tonight voters rewarded Harper's hard work and strengthened the Conservative brand.

The Liberals sit at the opposite side of the spectrum at about 79 seats. In only three elections since Confederation have the Liberals done worse:

In 1984 - 40 seats.
In 1958 - 49 seats.
In 1878 - 69 seats.

To add to the Liberal scorecard tonight, this was the worst popular vote result in Liberal electoral history. Stephan Dion now takes his seat in the Liberal Electoral Hall of Shame.

We finally get the electoral result we should have gotten after the Sponsorship Scandal in 2006. It was definitely worth the wait.

This was a satisfying election for three reasons:

1) The Harper government was re-elected as a result of their record of delivering on their promises. eg. GST cut, income tax cut, etc.

2) The Harper government is now officially legitimate and has a solid mandate as voters handily rejected the Liberal Green Shift.

3) The electorate delivered the media (especially most pollsters) a well deserved glove in the face.

Canada is an even better, stronger and freer country after the choice we all made tonight.

Calgary Tower

Ok I admit it!!! Dean and I were at the theater in the Calgary Tower, ( Vertigo Theater ) so we decided to go to the top afterwards. I haven't been there since they put the glass floor in. ( I know, bad Calgarian! ) So, we get out of the elevator... and I say in excitement... OOOO there it is, and I quickly walk over to see... and then I stopped dead! It was the weirdest feeling! I'm not scared of heights, but I couldn't talk my feet into stepping onto that glass!! I stood there for some time... and then finally.... took a step, with half my foot on the metal frame, then another step... eeekkk! Now I was completely on glass... ok I'm all good now, and once I could breath again, said, this is cool! So here are a few shots of the view... you must click these to get the whole picture! PS Dean was braver than me!

it all started with a Pigeon...

How does my laundry room flooding start with a pigeon? Let me tell ya...

A few blogs back, we noticed a pigeon on the skylight. We thought that was pretty funny, watching it waddle in the funny pigeon walk, across the glass. The next day we noticed a feather on the front steps? We thought, hmmm, must be from the pigeon? Then by fluke Dean noticed that there quite a few pigeons on the roof!! Not good!!! They are bad for shingles, they poop everywhere, and it went from being funny and cute to what a pain in the butt in seconds!! So now we had to investigate. Dean pulled the screen out of the front bedroom, we asked each other, how long could they have been up there without us noticing? HUH!!! When we looked and saw the massive PILE of pigeon poop, we guessed they have been up there AWHILE! So, Dean on a mission got the hose up and out the window, and blasted the roof (and a few lingering pigeons) with hot water. The roof had to be cleaned, and then the next step was to buy an owl, to keep them away.

Now to get back to the beginning... the connection to the laundry and the pigeons, is actually no connection.... no connection of the water hose that is!! Dean kinda forgot to hook the washing machine back up to the tap, and I kinda did laundry with an open tap, so... later when I sploshed into the room, it donned on me! Oopsy, the hose is off!! But luckily there was allot of laundry, so... the clothes soaked up most of the water! ( I know... me and the damn laundry stories! ) But to date... the pigeons have not returned!

The original CSI

Well, I got to watch a favorite character of mine come to life this past weekend. Dean and I went to a mystery theater and saw a play called, Columbo takes the Rap. I was a bit skeptical about the person portraying my favorite sleuth, but in the opening credits he won me over! The stage was dark, the actors came out and stood perfectly still until the spotlight lit each one up as they were introduced as their stage name. "Columbo" was crouched in the front, and was the last to be introduced... when they said his name, he looked up and scritched his head, in the famous Columbo motion!! I laughed, the audience applauded, and the show began. It was Awesome!! The plot was great, the actors, especially Columbo were true to form, and then later we found out why. The writer of the play was one of the men who wrote the Columbo mysteries. It was a perfect afternoon, and I'm sure Peter Falk would approve of his portrayal!

Umm, I Don't Think That Is Mud Anymore.

Selena was commenting that other day how muddy the rain seems to be. It rained lightly and then dried and left behind a dirty residue on her windshield. This seemed to be further proved by some mud on our skylight that appeared at about the same time. Here it is:

I thought wow - the wind really must have been strong to pickup so much dust that it would land in the form of a muddy raindrop! I shrugged my shoulders and went back to life filing this mystery in the "Answered" folder in my mind.

Today I was catching up on the debate I missed on Thursday. Yes, exciting! While listening to Stephane Dion try to explain his carbon tax, I heard something on the skylight my mind interpreted as rain drops. Becoming bored with Mr. Dion, I looked up. Suddenly, the mystery mud became something else.

Ahh, the pigeon solved the mystery! And how fitting after discovering what the mud actually was that I turned back to hear Mr. Dion's carbon tax explanation.

Killer Bunny

It's the time of year to shut down the rain barrel, empty the flower pots and get the yard ready for Halloween.... haha you thought I was going to say winter didn't you??? Well, there I am getting ready for you know what, (fighting the evil tiny bugs in the air, that are inhaled when breathing) when out of the corner of my eye I see it....... The Killer Bunny!!!!! He was sitting there staring at me, then he moved and I screamed like a school girl ( no offense Maddie ) He was hiding behind the rain barrel, and I did not see him. After I screamed and he went running from crazy lady, I realized it was just a cute little bunny..... at which point I said awww, I'm sorry to scare you bunny..... and went back to Halloween prepping...... Happy October Everyone!!
