I have been hunting for the results of the ice competition, and there doesn't seem to be any pictures to go with the winning sculptures so I can't link you, but I can show my own pix :-)

Lake Louise Ice Festival

Thankfully the weather warmed up, because this weekend wouldn't have been as fun if it had stayed -30!!

We ate at the hotel, and right outside our window there was an ice carving competition, One Carver, One Hour, One Block. The guy we were watching cut his block in half, stacked them on top of each other and starting carving. The theme this year was a "play on words" so he was making a "C" turtle. Very kewl!
Snow flying.... the turtle starts to take form
 almost done...
 Outside our Hotel
Then we headed to Chateau Lake Louise to see the rest of the ice sculptures.
 At the Ice Bar
 Looking thru the castle window
 Lake Louise
We got a bottle of wine included in our hotel room fee!
On Sunday the sun was shining so the ice took on a whole new look!
 close-up of the C turtle
this was a polar bear face so cute!
the winner of the one hour competition
thru the path Lake Louise again
only 2 hours left til the competition ends. They had 36 hours to carve 15 blocks of ice.
 This was "freeze"
seriously! an ice cape! these guys are amazing!
out of the pot into fire! "these words spell trouble!" the poor melting snowman. We don't know who won yet, it hasn't been posted.

Tooth Fairy's last stand!

Yesterday Maddie had her wisdom teeth taken out. We went to Dr Goos who was awesome and sweet to Maddie. The whole clinic was awesome, she was taken into the room at 9am, given drugs to make her dream a sweet dream, and was done n about 20 minutes! All 4 teeth. No complications, just a groggy Maddie after the fact!
When we got home, she slept.... had some soup, slept, had some soup, slept.... you get the idea. Lucky kept her feet nice and warm the whole day. When Maddie went to bed ( to sleep more ) for the night, she packaged up her teeth and wrote a note in case the tooth fairy was coming..... one last time!
The Tooth fairy did come... and she ( he ) was very good to Maddie!

Caterpillar snow plow

I have never seen one of these before! I was driving to pick up Maddie and this big semi was in front of me, then it started to slide sideways on the road! That's what it looked like but then on closer inspection..... it pulled a caterpillar move and slid the back half of it over to the second lane. The front part of the truck also had a shovel, so between the front and back, it was shovelling both lanes at once! When it came to the over pass, it pulled back together to form a straight line again!!! Not to mention the fact that it was lit up and blinking like a circus exhibit!! It was the coolest thing ever! ( Now that I know it wasn't sliding off the road with me behind it! )

so that's how they do that

You know those signs during Christmas time for Christmas lights service. Ever wonder how they get the Christmas lights on and off? I looked out my window today and saw a sneak peak of how they do it!

Favorite Pastime

Today I shared one of my favourite past times with Dean. He bought a new bread maker yesterday. Dean got the first loaf ready set for Sunday morning, we awoke to the smell of fresh bread baking....
 I snuck downstairs to peak....
Opened the lid, and the smell of bread puffed out....
I got the bread board all ready, choose a Columbo.....
.... and had a wonderful breakfast with Dean. Just like many many years ago when I used to do this... fresh bread, butter knife, butter and my favourite detective!

Ringing in 2012

New Years Eve! Maddie was going to a Rave and she was cute as a button in her blue dreads and blue costume that she perfected minutes before leaving!

We asked Ang to bring Looney's so we could play the game CLR that my Aunt taught us this summer, we joked about it being admission, as it turns out it was- we kicked their butts oopsy :-)
