Gloriously Green!

I love St Patricks day.... green beer, and when Maddie was little green milk. Nothin beats green beer and wings on March 17th. But there was another little treat that was once around that used to make my day... The Shamrock shake. I haven't had one for years, and google tells me they disappeared in 2003. It was a sad day...:-(

Dean was running late tonight he said "we won't have time to cook", so I can pick up McDonalds on my way home. I said "sure".... when he walked in the door, he said "look" and in the drink tray were 2 wonderfully green shakes! They are back.... starting today! Must be the luck o' the Irish.... and I enjoyed it immensely!

My favorite Google find

Many times I have clicked the fun little Google Image button to find many things. it helps with Digital scrapbooking and sometimes just for fun, to see what's out there. Well this is the first time I have used the button for history. I'm doing a heritage album and there are tons of pictures that have mystery people in them. But this one picture was intriguing. There was a picture of a parade in Winnipeg of someone "royal". From my Grandpa's picture it was hard to tell which Royal person was here. You see, just as the car drove by the person in front of my Grandpa tipped his hat... and that's all you see. Back then they didn't take 40 pictures of one angle, they had to wait weeks, to get the pictures back and cross their fingers that they all turned out. In this case, they didn't. Can you imagine standing in a hot dusty road for hours only to have your one and only shot ruined? It did prove that chivalry was alive and well back then tho.
but now comes the Google part. I thot I'd try finding more info on this event. And I found out that in 1938 King George visited Winnipeg. That would have been a cool picture... so now loaded with some info I clicked over to Google Images... and OMG!

I found a picture that looks like it was taken by a person standing right beside my Grandpa! So now I can add this picture to my album... thankyou whoever took the pic. You have made this my favorite Google Find!

I have permission to blog this 2

So as you know my birthday was last week. There was a funny little thing that happened, but I had to wait to blog it until I GOT PERMISSION.....hehe so now I can share. We were all sitting around the table and I was opening gifts.... and cards. So I open Valentine's stuff first, then birthday. I open my sweet Birthday card, that is singing away as soon as you open it.... so cute
then I read what Dean has written, and I smile... he's so sweet... then I read what the card says, now I am smirking.. I ask him if he read the card? he says yes? and he loved the fact that it sang.... so I passed the card around the table, not saying a word, and waiting for everyone else one by one to catch on.... Maddie laughs, passes it to Nana, she laughs passes it to Papa... and then we all laugh together. Dean was so happy about the singing he forgot that I am his WIFE not his HUSBAND! But I still love the card... I spent the whole day being called Hubby tho!

Zumba

So yesterday afternoon I blogged that my day was going perfect.... and then it got better believe it or not! When the Napa's left we teased them that we were going to do a snow dance so they would have to stay another night... as it turned out they did have to stay, not from snow but none the less the result was the same. So anyway.... Dean brought home steak and lobster, started up the BBQ, the Napa's arrived ( again ) and we sat down for supper, I opened the rest of my gifts and Dean bought me Zumba for the WII! How kewl!! I couldn't wait to try it.... alone lol! Then after supper, me and Maddie wrapped up playing Alice in Wonderland, the boys played WII bowling, we sat around and yakked and laughed.... then after the Napa's went to bed we watched My Bloody Valentine.... a perfect day!

so today when I got home the first thing I did was post the Zumba warning up on the door

then I started to Zumba.... this program is so kewl!!

that's me Zumba'ing.... and that's all I would show lol

WII Zumba, that's not me..... yet hehehe gotta go... the music calls!

The perfect Birthday

What should a birthday be?

Sleeping in, having a jammie day, recieving wishes from freinds and family, and eating good food! Well it's noon and so far my day is perfectly on track. Yesterday the Napa's arrived and we all went to the Olive Garden for supper. There was an hour and half wait, but it's worth it so you really don't care. Anyway, me and Maddie discovered the secret of the Olive garden. So many times when we go, we are so full from the awesome breadsticks and salad, that we can't eat supper... :-( or we don't eat the bread sticks and have room for dinner but are so sad we missed the yummy morsels... so we decided that we should eat all the bread and salad we want, nibble at our supper and have a wonderous lunch tomorrow :-) and that's exactly what we did
Maddie has no school this week, so we got to send my birthday together :-) we just finished our wonderful lunch from leftovers and are getting ready to play video games later today. The Napa's left at noon and Dean will be home to make a scrumptious supper later. So, I am having a wonderful birthday.
On a side note... Maddie gave me my gift this morning... and it made me cry! Hehe, I'm so sappy. Awhile back... quite awhile actually, I was talking about this hotel called the Moulin Rouge. I love Vegas history and this hotel has my favorite history above all the other hotels. Let me share some facts :-)

In May 1955 a hotel opened off the strip. THE first integrated hotel in Vegas. Sammy Davis Jr would be hired to play in the strip hotels, but then was escorted out the kitchen after the show, becasuse he wasn't aloud to stay in the hotel!! Good enuff to make them money, but not good enuff to stay in their hotel. So he would go to the Moulin Rouge, him and the whole rat pack, and all their followers. The place was so popular the hotel added a show at 2:30 am to accomodate the crowds. Sadly the hotel closed after only 6 months.. the true reason was never discovered, but rumour has it the mob that ran the strip hotels put the pressure on the owner. They didn't appreciate their business leaving the strip. Although the hotel was shortlived, it started the civil rights movement that ended the racial discrimination in Nevada.
The hotel was never sold. If it had it would have been bulldozed. But it wasn't open for business either. Different groups thru the years have tried to get funding to make something historical out of the landmark, but it always fell thru. There have been 3 fires at the Moulin Rouge in the past few years, each one taking a bigger toll. The last and final fire took all that remained of the hotel up in smoke. One last lucky moment happened weeks before the fatal fire. The Neon Museum aquired the rights to the Neon sign for the hotel. They saved it... and now it will shine on, in the museum!
So what did Maddie get me for my birthday..... way back when, she remembered this tidbit and saw how intrigued I was by the story. She found me a Moulin Rouge casino chip! Sooooo kewl!!! This chip could've been used by Sammy Davis Jr! It was an awesome awesome gift!!!

An Interesting Movie Choice....

I had to visit an office this morning and to get their xrays working again. I came home to find The Studio had been transformed into The Hair Studio. I sat down and called up Drudge and then noticed what was playing on the TV.

I mentioned it and they said "Oh yeah - I guess that was an interesting choice." Hahaha!

Do you recognize it? Hint: It isn't Breakfast Club!

The answer:

So just in case you were wondering - EVERY day is Halloween around here!

The Power of Marketing (and a good beer commercial)

This weekend, I was fortunate enough to be invited over to some friends to celebrate The Event - The Superbowl. Now, I do not usually follow the NFL and the stats, coaches and player's names fly over my head. I have no idea. But I liked being part of the celebration of this event and am going to try and celebrate it every year. It's fun. Almost as fun as an election or the State of the Union...

I have some pretty good family out there. My brother in law, he was known once as "The other Dean", sent a really nice gift to me via my parents last week. A 24 pack of Coors. My absolute favourite beer in the world. It was first beer I ever drank when I turned 18 (and admittedly a little bit before I turned 18). For some reason, Coors Heavy, as we affectionately call it is no longer sold in most beer stores. It has been replaced by Coors Light which I really don't care for.

Our gracious hosts have some american roots. When I showed up with Coors Heavy, one of our hosts was a little taken aback. He held it in his hands and made the sound when as if he'd found the holy grail! Finally, I know someone who GETS IT!

Through the technical wizardry of YouTube I am actually able to go back to the 1980s and see why I loved this beer so much - what hooked me? Remember Mark Harmon? Yeah, NCIS, Mark Harmon! He hooked me on the Coors! Here's why - I liked all of them but this first one was my favourite:

And now you know, why over 20 years later (wow, where did the time go?), Coors is The One.

why is a raven....

... like a writing desk?

I have been a Alice in Wonderland fan for many years, and every now and then I think about the Mad Hatter's question "why is a raven like a writing desk" there is no answer... the riddle itself is in the fact that there is no answer... just part of the topsy turvey mind of Lewis Carrol. But it got me thinkin.... is there an answer? so off to my friend google I go...

This riddle is famous, although it's the rarefied kind of fame that entails most people never having heard of it. Lewis was bombarded with letters asking the answer but there was none, finally giving in to peer pressure he did submit an answer.... 'Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is never put with the wrong end in front!' This, however, is merely an afterthought; the Riddle, as originally invented, had no answer at all.

and so the legend lives on in every new Alice in wonderland story, just as it was.... an unanswered "mad" question :-)

pizza party wrap up

Well the party is winding down, not quite finished there are still 4 of us left, but here are the goings on as the night progressed....

Dianne tried to freeze us out of the house so she brought Cathy a nice fuzzy blanket, look at the love in her eyes

we were supposed to bring a $3.00 treat, but we didn't know there was a game planned, so we opened the gummy tarantula's oopsy! they were really good tho' and a little creepy!

more tarantula's

then the game unfolded, all the treats were put in the center of the table, (even my open bag)and the timer was set, we had 8 minutes and everyone rolled the dice in turn, if you rolled a 6 or a 2 you would pick a treat, then you hid it, and the next person could pick a new treat or steal yours IF they remembered what you had, you just kept rolling til the timer went.... Fun game!!! we played another game tonight too, everyone submitted a story, funny or embarrassing and then the host reads them all, and we had to guess who's story belongs to who.... that was hilarious!!!

Jennifer and Nola, everyone fought over the Rocher' it went around and around the table...

I ended up with 2 treats, one was the open bag of tarantula's and a cute heart bag filled with kisses...

We made Dianne turn up the heat, and then asked for tea... Cathy wanted 7 teaspoons of sugar in her tea, so Dianne brought her tea with 7 spoons in it.... she may be mean with the heat, but she's witty.... Just kidding Di, we still love you :-) thanx for hosting... it was a fun, fun, party!!

Martini Time

Now the party gets rollin, pizza arrives...

Hey cath, how is that camera workin.... I won the camera off :-)

...and the Martini's start
