MSI ( Mindless Self Indulgence )

Omg it was the best! For the first band i was second in front, for the second band i was third in front! And for MSI i was in front! And i touched jimmy! And i got his glowstick! And the whole time we were right beside the mosh pit and they kept slamming me against the fence, so i had to get pulled out by staff on the last song, but i got jimmy's signature on my hoodie! It was awesome! ... And people were crowd surfing, and they kicked me in the head a few times! But it was awesome! How was your thing?

This was the text I recieved after sending Maddie one that said " How was the concert?" Her first concert without any adults. Her and Connor went to MSI on Saturday night. It sounds like they had fun! "our thing" was John Pinette. Dale, Evar, Dean and me went to see Pinette at the same time. We laughed so hard we cried... he is such a funny, funny man!!! There was a startup comedian who was really funny too, but I forgot his name :-( , anyway we had a great time also, without being kicked in the head! If you aren't sure who Pinette is, you bloggers may have seen clips of him here. Here's a short cute one, and the video from MSI. You tube is a such a great source!!

1 whole year

Well this past weekend was Dean and My anniversary. ( Where has the time gone?) Anyway, we got to spend time with 2 people who were planning on being at our wedding, but forces beyond their control made them unable to come. So how cool that we got to see both of them this weekend! Dean's uncle flew in from Winnipeg, he had to use up his ticket, so we got to hang out with him for a bit. This was the first time I got to meet him. And Claudia's Hubby Chris, wasn't able to attend either, we were meeting them on Saturday. Plans had been in the works for over a month, so we couldn't change, and then after realized what a perfect weekend anyway!
Another cool thing that happened was the card Dean got me. I wonder what the guys at Carlton were thinking when they made this card. My thought is, that somewhere someone else got that card and were probably arguing right now about how unromantic this anniversary card was.... but the hilarious thing is, it was like it was made for us! It was absolutely PERFECT! If anyone remembers our wedding invite, you will get a chuckle out of this!

Dean and I went to Red Lobster for dinner, ate until we couldn't anymore and had a wonderful night, ( and year ) on to 2.......

I found a Sunday New York Times!

Yesterday night I went to pick up a friend at the airport. I love that place. It is just so fascinating. You can watch planes taxi and take off, you can get Timmys or a Starbucks and just people watch. My friend's plane was a little late so I walked around to see what I could discover. It was pretty quiet and I turned a corner and found this:

A current edition of the New York Times! I know the non-news crowd will not appreciate the find but all of those who do understand - cool eh? Anyway, I have been thinking about the Times lately as Selena and I were in New York and saw the huge building the Times had just recently moved in to right before our visit. But the Grey Lady, (as the Times is nicknamed in reference to its tradition of presenting many words and few pictures-thanks Wikipedia), has been having quite a hard time even before the economy tanked. In recent years, the Times has been through such things as a scandal where their editor had to resign when a reporter, Jayson Blair, just made up news stories and quoted people he never interviewed. Ouch. That just isn't supposed to happen at a paper as legendary as the Times. The Times, once the standard in journalism, has seen it's circulation drop and also its market value. Just how bad are things at the NYT? Take a look at this:
]
Take a look at the price of the Sunday edition. $5.00. What is the New York Times stock trading at these days? It closed trading today at $3.90. So a Sunday New York Times is worth more than one share of its stock. Wow. I had heard or read that somewhere so it's cool (for me) to see that fact literally in black and white. On March 12th, 2004, the Times stock closed at $45.32.

Today I read on the web from Yahoo Finance via The Drudge Report:

New York Times raises another $225M in office sale

New York Times raises another $225M by selling headquarters, giving publisher bigger cushion

Monday March 9, 2009, 4:50 pm EDT

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Times Co. has sold most of its home office for $225 million, padding the newspaper publisher's financial cushion amid a sharp drop in revenue that has forced management to scrounge for more money.
The deal announced Monday covers 21 of the building's 52 floors. That space, about 750,000 square feet (69,676 sq. meters), became the Times' headquarters when the midtown Manhattan offices opened in 2007.

How the mighty have fallen.

If you don't believe in Global Warming....

...just look at my shovel!***

I was shovelling for what seemed like the 100th time this winter and the shovel just kind of felt funny. I actually examined it closely and look what I found:

I have used the thing so much this year, it is actually starting to wear down so much I have to replace it. Haha.

Well if Global Warming is true, it sure has not hit Evanston this year as my shovel would attest.

Old School

I received a letter in the mail the other day. Not just a note, but an actual 2 page HAND written letter!! It was like I was back in 5th grade with my PenPals from school. It was a really nice, refreshing, sit by the fireplace and read letter! it inspires me to go hand write something, no offense to blogging or email or the other great, quick ways to communicate, but it was nice to see that we still can find a use for pen and paper! Thankyou Tracy! What a nice surprise in my (old school ) mail box!

Got Golf?

In late 2008, my brother Glenn opened up his Golf Studio. He converted his garage into a complete gold learning centre. When you walk in you soon forget it was once a garage. It features a high speed camera, a swing analysis computer and a 20 foot screen where you can practice your short game, see your swing in slow motion or actually play a round! It is truly a golfers paradise. Congratulations!

Choose your weapon.

Full swing analysis with high speed camera. Your swing
can then be viewed on the big screen for thorough
analysis.

You can swing full strength just like
you are on the course. This special screen
is
made of a bullet resistant material.
Cool!

Lucky

What do you get when you enter your name in a cat treat basket, and your cat's name is Lucky? Well you get the basket of course!! The owners of Pet Planet must've had a chuckle over the fact that Lucky won! I'm not sure Lucky would agree.... one of the items was toothpaste and a toothbrush.... but he'll like the treats, and the toys!

4 City Supper

This blog is a little late, but better late than never :-) So, for my birthday this year, Dean made a surprise dinner. I didn't have a clue, the only hint I got was that there were 4 parts. I was supposed to stay out of the kitchen and he would tell me when to come eat. That was easy since I hurt my back, AGAIN? ( No not laundry this time ) so I was laid up anyway. Long story short..... Dean calls me down to see the first course..... Oysters, and scallops, he says, this is a taste of San Francisco.... aha!! It didn't take long to clue in as to where this was going! Next was deep fried pickles from New Orleans. This is a appetizer that we tried just to say we did, and it was so good, but where do you get them here? So Dean tried his own tricks and they were awesome!! Maddie even liked them!! Next was Washington ( that was a hard one ) and the obvious... New York Steak!! Again like last year, a dinner fit for a Queen!!
San Fran
New York and Washington, Dang forgot to get a pic of the pickles.... they weren't around long enough!!
For Valentines day I got chocolate and flowers, Gerbers of course like my wedding bouquet, and even tho' this blog is late... my flowers look like they did on the 14th!!

The mess Dean had to deal with after!! But well worth it.

Why I always want to carry a camera!

I was working in a operatory fixing a machine when I heard a strange sound. I went to look out the window and this is an artists rendition of what I saw:

Thank-you Maddie for being my sketch artist and recreating what I saw out the windows.

The sound I heard, of course, was that of a horse. The Calgary police have a mounted police program and apparently patrol some of neighbourhoods near downtown on horseback. I guess that shouldn't be a surprise living in Calgary but it just wasnt something I see everyday.

The Tale Of Two Tomato Plants.

We finally got our Aerogarden back up and running and decided to grow tomatoes. We put the seed kits in as instructed and turned the thing on. One seed pod sprouted as normal but the other did not do anything. We had a bad seed kit! Crap. What to do now? Well, Selena is quite the gardening expert and had a brilliant idea. She pruned a little piece of the good plant and put it in the dead pod. Well, it worked! She didn't know if it would grow but it did. Now the garden is quite the tale of opposites. Here are some the photos:
