Calgary Stampede 101

you would think we have had enuff rain...... but when we left for the grounds on Friday... it started to rain.... and then more rain and a touch of hail. The rain was coming down so hard we stayed on our car about an hour waiting it out...... watching the puddles grow on the streets of downtown..... but then it let up... a bit. We made a run for it. We got into the grounds, and tried to find food. It was still sprinkling and most our time to look for food was taken up sitting in the car. So we were kinda rushed. We made our way to our grandstand seats and were thankful it was under the roof!! We almost forgot it was raining until we watched the tractors scraping the track and seeing the puddles of water grow..... this rain is making us nervous that the evening show will be cancelled.... we sat and watched and crossed our fingers.

The tractors did their best to make the track even between each race.

The horses didn't seem to mind the rain, or muck, they plowed thru it no problem.... but the guy in last place... he was getting a mouthful!

Our Astronaut Chris, got to ride around the track before the race started and he was all muddy, they asked him if he wanted to clean up before he went on stage, he said " No, I earned this mud! "

Our Hell or High water shirts.... proudly worn...

the muddy last place! Around the 7th race, the rain actually stopped..... now we held our breath that it would stay away so the show could go on!

They hooked up the tractor and pulled the stage into place....

the sweepers squeegeed the stage....

and the rain stayed away!!! The show was on!!! and it was spectacular! There is always something going on in the air, here there are performers in cages high above the crowd!

they did a tribute from past generations of The Young Canadians, so the music was all over the eras! It was great...

These guys made me nervous, hanging on, swinging high..... eeek!

haha these guys fooled us... Kiss was supposed to be here in concert, but the Saddledome isn't ready, so they had to cancel the concerts. These guys came out and we thot! Kewl! they are going to play a song for us.... lol jokes on us....plus these guys are MUCH skinnier than Kiss today! But, they were awesome!

Tribute to Queen, piano in the sky, this guy was amazing too!

We will rock you.......

Tribute to Elton.... Benny and the Jets! Loved this song!!

OMG! these metallic dancing horses in the air held my attention until they disappear....  sorry people on the stage, I forgot to look down!

although I don't like opera, this combination of a floating opera singer and the little kids balancing on what looked like colored jars was fabulous!

Flood tribute...... a teary moment,

and the final song... by Queen.... we are the champions.... how appropriate! This show gets better every year, I just can't believe it!! Awesome Awesome Awesome, I'm so grateful the rain stopped!!
