86 stories....

We really do have 86 stories from today, but the most memorable is the real 86 story building, the Empire State Building! As tall as all these skyscrapers look from the ground, they are minimized from the top of this observation deck. I thought it would be cold and windy at thw top but the weather was nice? We took a lot of pictures because of this, and now have to piece together the inforamation that was crammed into our brain. There is an unbelievable amount to see in a small city block!!

(Over to Dean)
Rush hour traffic in Manhattan is a real sight to see. But the real action is on the sidewalk. There is no where to park in Manhattan so no one has a car so everyone takes the subway or a cab. The sidewalks turn into human icebergs, moving like 1000 robots coming straight towards you. You better be paying attention or you will take a shoulder to the body at top speed. The street crossings are funny because Walk - don't walk are meaningless. People stand 3 feet from the curb out into the street and watch the cars whiz past them by inches. The CARS are in the way here in Manhattan. This is the land where Pedestrians rule the earth. Strange indeed. (SC) In traffic jams, the cars move so slow, when a cop has to give a ticket out, he just walks out to the car and issues it!! Back to Dean...

We ate at Carnegie Deli today. We lined up and then went inside. Ooops too far. We were told in an airport security type way to stand outside. We got in a few minutes later and were led way in the back past all these tables of eight. We were sat down at a table of eight with where your nearest neighbour is actually at your table. Personal space has no meaning in NYC. (For example, I am liveblogging from a Cheesecake place and we are sitting uncomfortably close to another table of two. The native New Yorkers beside carry on like we aren't even here. ) We were on the end so we didn't have people on both borders. The waitress was impatient and really didn't offer to help with the massive menu. Anyway, Selena found the Corn Beef "sandwich" and I quickly decided on the Carnegie hamburger. We munched on the free pickle appetizers at our table. They were excellent. Selena's "sandwich" arrives, it is a massive hind quarter of corn beef. And she finished it all - it was that good. See the pic - it is hard to believe. My hamburger arrives with a pound of bacon on it. Wow! The food was amazing and I now know why everyone puts up with the Woodstock style seating. It was the best hamburger I have ever had. And after that we disappeared into Times Square again....

The Answer to:"What state is Washington, DC in"?

The voters were right again.

The District of Columbia (D.C.) was formed as a compromise, neutral territory, to please the former colonies. So, the answer is "No state. District of Columbia."

New York..

We haven't seen much of New York yet. We went for Sushi and then walked around our block, down one way we saw the Empire state building and down the other way the Chrysler building, it should be really easy to walk around Manhatten, everything seems to be close! Tomorrow we get our "hop on hop off" tickets we pass landmarks, and we get off the bus and can stay as long as we want there, then hop on the next bus. It will be a nice change from Washington's tour where they said ok, you have 20 minutes then get back on the bus. Our hotel is 3 streets over from Madison Ave. and we are 1 street away from Park, ( I feel like playing Monopoly. In every city they have a City Monopoly game I wonder what they have here??)

You can tell your in New York when... you get in the taxi and it has bullet proof glass, a charge machine in the back so the driver doesn't even have to collect, and the cars honk when you are 1 second longer at a light. But it is beautiful and I look forward to tomorrow's adventure!!

would you like some Bacon with your eggs??

sharing the line for the train with Kevin Bacon

Almost not Stuck in Newark.

The conductor just came on and said they have cleared the problem and we just started moving as I type this. The conductor said they are going to let one train through "to test it and it's us". Haha.

And just to update you: Kevin Bacon is no longer aboard the train. However, we now will arrive in NYC before him as he has to transfer to another train to get to Penn Station. Ha!

Kevin Bacon Update

I know all of you have been following the Kevin Bacon story closely.

He has said screw it and is taking the PATH train into NYC. Amtrak has given us the option to switch over to an LRT type train on the other track. Kevin Bacon has taken that option.

So just to go over the story for those of you just joining us: We are stuck in Newark on a train but Kevin Bacon is no longer stuck with us. He has been crammed onto an LRT and. I wonder if that person that is crammed next to him knows who he is?

Stuck in Newark.

If someone ever asks us if we were ever stuck on a train in Newark, New Jersey with Kevin Bacon, we can say YES.

We have been stuck for about 20 mins now. The stops usually only last for a few minutes so it is definitely strange.

They don't know what is causing the delay. Russ, can you see something on Drudge? Hahaha.

We will let you know what the problem was and we will let you know if it has anything to do with Kevin Bacon...maybe he is having train searched for that papparazzi who took his pic at the train station...

Planes, Trains and Kevin Bacon

Departing from Union Station here in Washington. Selena is facing me with her back to the gate and I see her squint slightly and she whispers "That guy looks like Kevin Bacon." I turn around and Bob's Your Uncle, it IS Kevin Bacon. Selena slowly slides her hand toward the camera bag and grabs our camera, points, aims and takes a FLASH picture. We have taken about 4000 pictures and about 6 of those are with a flash. Well, make it seven! Anyway, we just looked at our photographic evidence and we got a slightly blurry shot of him but it is definitely him. Selena is now an official papparazi and she now has a celebrity shot on her resume.

We are now sitting on the train a la Harry Potter... Where is that goodie trolley?
