The Answer to "Selena's favourite day of the year is Halloween, what is Dean's?"

We have a consensus with this question around the answer "Any election day". As the instructions on multiple choice tests advise, "Choose the BEST answer." While any election day certainly does flip the house into instant Christmas mode (as you could tell by the "Stel-Shocked" post), elections unfortunately only happen sporadically. I celebrate George W. Bush's and Ronald Reagan's birthday everyday (Margaret Thatcher's too!) so that is also incorrect. Haha. So, the BEST answer is State of the Union. I love great speeches. Especially great political speeches. State of the Union is the Oscar Night of political speeches. It celebrates democracy and freedom and I look forward to State of the Union every year. I certainly won't enjoy them as much if the Democrats win the Whitehouse in November but the 2010 State of the Union (there isn't one in 2009 as it is not given in the first year of the new President's term) still will be celebrated.

Canada really needs it's own version of State of the Union. Our closest equivalent, The Throne Speech, isn't even given by the Prime Minister - it is read by the House Speaker. I think it would give parliament some much needed excitement and allow the Prime Minister at least one opportunity a year to speak to the voters directly.

Boy, is this post ever exciting, eh? Is anyone still awake? Hello? Hello?

I'm extremely worried as to the type of man you are. Am I understanding correctly you prefer republicans? I am shuddering at the thought!

This is the only time in my very short life I have ever wished I was american just so I could vote for Obama! McCain is too old and cranky! I was super upset that some idiot in our gov't opened their yap about the nafta issue. But I don't know how much of a difference that would have made in ohio, i think clinton still would have won that state regardless, but texas was really close.

I always make sure when I turn the tv off at night I leave it on CNN so the minute I get home I can catch up and I do the same with the bedroom tv, i had to turn it on at 5 am the other day to see the the percentages for the idaho and texas primaries. (i also do that when the canucks are in the playoffs and i fall asleep before the game is over! i'm a little worried about them right now)

What I think is crazy is how cnn gives a checkmark to the winner after only 2% of the votes are in! how do they know that? and why do our elections seem so boring compared to the u.s? it's like cfl vs nfl, love them both but would rather bet on and watch nfl on tv than cfl.

enough rambling for now. i hope you change your mind about the democrats once obama becomes president!

Yes! A proud Republican since Reagan when I first became interested in the political process.

McCain does have a grouchy side that concerns me however he is the strongest Republican candidate since Reagan. He is a unique candidate as he has no baggage from W's administration like Cheney would if he were running. He can legitimately campaign as a candidate for change as he has went against Bush on several key policies and was an early proponent of the successful counter-insurgency strategy in Iraq. He also appeals to independants and "Reagan Democrats" which will make a formidable opponent in November. I am very happy he won the nomination.

I like Obama because he has finally slain the Clinton dragon. The only people who don't want to see another Clinton administration more than the Republicans are the Democrats. The Clinton/Obama war will at least make the Democratic convention a must see rather than the snoozefest it usually is.

Obama's inexperience as a politican is finally showing in how he handled this NAFTA scandal. His claim of being a Washington outsider went down in flames in a matter of minutes. He showed himself as a entrenched member of the Washington establishment when he told Ohio voters what they wanted to hear while actually intending to do the opposite. Ohio voters are the worst voters he could have lied to as Ohio is kind of an important state. Just ask Al Gore and John Kerry. His press conference in Texas was a disaster and his "Guys, like I just answered eight questions!" quote will haunt him all the way until November. It finally has the press asking what else is this guy trying to hide? The Rezko scandal will also not help his situation. Hillary will fire everything she has at him over that one.

Having said all that - a President Obama is a real possibility. I shudder at that thought but would "like" to see it as it will finally force the Democrats to come to the table with some solutions rather than just talking about the problem.

Yes, the projection abilities of the media are mind bloggling. In last week's Alberta elections, they called the election for Stelmach in about 17 minutes after the polls closed. Amazing.

I find any election to be exciting but yes, the US presidential is my favorite - I don't know why other than maybe more voters makes it more exciting...

2008 will have some great political theatre - one for the books for sure!

All I know is that Bush is bad. I watch CNN and the mainstream media, and I believe everything they say. I was completely shocked over the Alberta election. The way the media was reporting it, I thought for sure Stelmach was going to be gone. What's this new stuff about "Global Warming" anyway. I'm going to really have to follow that one. If it's on the news, it has to be true, right?
