New York Factoids for the Day.

Just in case you think that Calgary is crowded. Consider this Wikipedia fact, Selena wanted to know how many sq. kilometres NYC covered - the answer: 770

How many square kilometres does Calgary have: 727

Population of NYC: 8 Million

Population of Calgary: 1 Million

The tour guide said the island of Manhattan, where our hotel is, had 1.6 million residents. Square kilometres: 59. The tour guide also said that on any given workday the population swells to over 5 million.

There are 11000 taxi cabs operating in New York. I think that many drove by us yesterday as we were trying to catch a cab back to the hotel. There are so many because no one has cars, everyone travels by transit.

And there you have some cool New York facts.

Holy crap. That really puts it in perspective. We have it pretty good here in Calgary.
I would imagine that if you weren't tourists, and if you were on a strict timeline, some serious frustration would set in with traffice, etc.

I was wondering when my San Fransisco Chronicle and post card was going to arrive. Finally.

Our tour guide said that New Yorkers walk very fast because they are almost always late for something. The traffic is absolutely out of this world insane. If a day was only frustrating, I think you would be getting off easy. Selena observes that we stick to walking and it is faster than the cars. Totally true.

Glad you got it! If only you still had your bird, it would make a nice lining for the cage...haha.
